Therapy Approaches

I am a clinical psychologist trained in a wide range of evidence based psychological interventions including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), schema focused therapy, phase based interventions for complex trauma, solution focused therapy and compassion focused therapy (CFT). I normally work integratively, meaning that I combine several therapeutic approaches in order to provide specific, individually tailored psychological interventions with the aim of helping you improve more quickly.

The therapeutic approaches that I use have been researched and shown to be effective psychological therapies as demonstrated in published guidelines. These include the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines, the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) and The Psychological Therapies 'Matrix'. Some types of therapy may work better with certain presentations as demonstrated by these guidelines and based on scientific research regarding their effectiveness. 

 

The Psychological Therapies 'Matrix' is a published guide to planning and delivering evidence-based Psychological Therapies within NHS Boards in Scotland and help to provide the most effective and available psychological treatments for particular presentations.  You can find out more about the Matrix here.
